Lisa K. Wexler, Probate Judge

Hello, this is Lisa Wexler.  I love to help people resolve their own disputes if at all possible. Mediation, if approached properly, can save you time, money, and many sleepless nights of aggravation. However, as you can see from my attached resume, I have a very busy and rigid weekday schedule, as both a daily talk radio host and the current Probate Judge for the Westport/Weston District.

Here is how I propose to help you. If you are stuck on an issue that appears to be the one stumbling block between you and peace, I’m your gal. Often people ask for modification of their original divorce decree, because circumstances change. Sometimes, on the eve of trial, both sides realize that airing their dirty laundry and ceding control of their lives to a judge might not produce the best outcome.

As a probate judge, I have extensive experience in some areas that may be important to you: children and adults with special needs, and issues affecting the elderly who are losing their ability to live independently. Probate judges in Connecticut appoint all guardians and conservators. I have adjudicated and mediated highly contested family matters as a result, including custody cases battling over children with special needs. We also adjudicate psychiatric commitments. As a result, if you have a circumstance where someone is affected by severe depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, I have extensive knowledge of the particular challenges facing you.

I am not the person to help you figure out all the details of your divorce. I simply do not have the time to devote to your matter. I am the person to help you when you’ve already worked out most of the details, but you are not across the finish line. I like getting across the finish lines. Generally, I find it easier to do that when you are already represented by counsel.

My fee is an hourly one, based on the average of the lawyers in the case. If one lawyer is charging $600 an hour, and the other is charging $700, I will charge $650.00 an hour for my time, shared equally between the parties. Generally, I require the decision-makers to be physically present at the mediation because it is my experience that the process results in a more favorable outcome. However, I have also conducted successful mediations via zoom, depending upon the issue, and I can be flexible as necessary. I require payment of six hours of time as a minimum non-refundable fee because I will be reading your file and preparing for your case before the mediation itself.

I have asked Ravit Rose to assist me in deciding whether or not your case is one in which I can be of help. Please email her with your request. I wish you good luck, success, and peace in your journey.

Love, Lisa
